Background & Objectives

Since the 1970s, European countries have developed laws and regulations on animal welfare, deeply embedding the concept into society and corporate activities. In contrast, Asian countries, including Japan, have lagged behind, but interest in animal welfare has been steadily growing, accompanied by emerging regulatory initiatives.

Against this international backdrop, animal welfare is increasingly recognized as a key theme from environmental, ethical, and business perspectives. Strengthening awareness and positioning of animal welfare is essential for companies and society alike.

This event offers participants an opportunity to explore what animal welfare really means, how it can create new possibilities, and what impact it may have on our daily lives and business activities. By taking a multi-dimensional approach, we hope to deepen understanding of sustainability and its connection to animal welfare.

Using the European approach as a starting point, we invite participants to reflect on the links between the environment, our daily lives, and future livestock practices. We will also introduce “Unshelled,” a next-generation animal welfare model facility for laying hens developed by Lively in collaboration with Professor Tsuyoshi Shimmura from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Through live demonstrations and group discussions, participants will have the chance to share insights and generate new ideas together.

We are excited to co-host this animal welfare interactive event with WeWork Japan. Since May 2025, Lively has been running experiential education programs for companies at the next-generation model facility for laying hens developed with Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology.

This event marks our first in-person co-hosted gathering, made possible thanks to the support and shared vision of the WeWork Japan Environmental Project Team. We hope this event offers participants the chance to learn together about the fundamentals of animal welfare and reconsider its significance from a sustainability perspective.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing this learning experience together.
