Lively assisted a major consumer goods manufacturer in obtaining "SBTi FLAG" international certification.
With a focus on cutting GHG emissions due to land use change (LUC) and land management (LM), we developed measures for our client to achieve GHG reductions by 2030 through certified raw materials and traceability to reduce GHG emissions in raw material procurement. Further to this, we supported the client further reduction of GHG emissions and establishment of sustainable procurement policies to lessen its environmental impact.
* SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) is an organization that sets reduction targets based on scientific evidence and certifies these targets for companies. FLAG (Forest, Land and Agriculture) is a guidance specific to the forest, land and agriculture sector. FLAG is the complementary guideline to the GHG Protocol that focuses on forests, land use, and agriculture, and we are looking forward to the final version of the GHG Protocol Land Sector Carbon Removal Guidance, which is scheduled to be released around the end of 2024.
目次
What are the corporate challenges to obtain SBTi FLAG international certification?
Our client has made efforts to reduce GHG emissions to obtain the SBTi FLAG certificate. To cut Scope 3 emissions from agriculture, it was necessary to significantly lower emissions from land use change (LUC) and land management (LM). In addition, traceability of certified raw materials and reducing emissions related to past deforestation was needed. For that purpose, we designed specific measures using certified materials through effective monitoring and data management.
Approaches to reduce Scope 3 emissions and further removal of GHG emissions
Lively assessed the availability and traceability of certified feedstocks and developed measures to reduce emissions related to land use change (LUC) and land management (LM). We also created methods for calculating GHG emissions and explored ways to reduce emissions and increase removals thereof with private certifications and primary data. Thereby we made action plans for our client to ensure traceability and monitoring by linking with various data platforms.
Aiming at obtaining SBTi FLAG international certification for a sustainable society
This project enabled our client to shape a GHG emissions reduction using certified raw materials and a sustainable procurement policy, and provided it with a path to a transparent supply chain with reduction of environmental impact and boosting corporate credibility by enhancement of traceability and monitoring. Lively will continue to develop an approach to reduce GHG emissions due to land use change (LUC) and land management (LM) in order to achieve the SBTi FLAG targets.
Message from the Project Member
Our client, a major consumer goods manufacturer, aimed to reduce GHG emissions for a sustainable society. Addressing Scope 3 emissions from agriculture required tackling land use change (LUC) and land management (LM). Lively developed an action plan to reduce these emissions and improve data management, supporting a transparent supply chain. We also formulated measures to ensure raw material traceability and reduce GHG emissions, contributing to a sustainable supply chain. Lively assists clients in reducing emissions and building sustainable supply chains. For inquiries, please contact us.
