What is the importance of human rights risks in the global supply chain?
Many companies address human rights in line with international norms; however, as global risks become more complex, their more efforts are needed. Especially it is essential to identify and assess human rights risks in business and supply chains in terms of severity of the risks and probability of their occurrence. Our client likewise needed to properly identify human rights risks in its global value chain and make a concrete action plan to mitigate such risks.
Human rights risk assessment and effective prevention and mitigation measures
Lively identified significant human rights risks by understanding the client’s business and supply chain structure and through interviews with heads of relevant departments both in Japan and overseas branches and detailed research and analyses of its operations. With insights from international organizations, NGOs, and actual cases of the same industry, we mapped out the client’s important human rights risks and assessed their severity and probability of occurrence, and then came up with specific prevention and mitigation measures for these risks.
Identifying and mitigating human rights risks toward a sustainable operational foundation
This project enabled our client to gain a clear understanding of key human rights risks in its business and supply chain and develop a concrete action plan against the risks. It also strengthened the client’s response to the human rights risks and laid the foundation towards sustainable operations. Additionally, the client could enhance its trust with stakeholders by sharing information on its response to the risks externally.
